The Institute of Public Health, Medical Decision Making and Health Technology Assessment (Head: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Uwe Siebert) of the Department of Public Health, Health Services Research and Health Technology Assessment is currently seeking to appoint a:

PhD Student / Junior Researcher in Public Health, Medical Decision Analysis and Evidence-based Medicine

to commence as soon as possible and initially limited to two years in full-time or part-time (100%, 75% or 50%); an extension is possible and is being sought.

The position is associated with the MeDeMSA project and other research projects in the field of health decision science and initially limited to three years. An extension is possible.

The Medical Decision Making in MSA Research Group (MeDeMSA) has been formed to develop personalized diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for people living with multiple system atrophy (MSA). The MeDeMSA ultimate goals are to enable an early and accurate MSA diagnosis for facilitating recruitment in disease-modifying clinical trials and to improve the quality of life of people living with MSA and their caregivers throughout the disease course under careful consideration of ethical, legal and health-economic aspects. The focus of the PhD research will be on methods and applications of systematic decision analysis, clinical guideline development and health technology assessment with a focus on MSA to evaluate short- and long-term benefits, risks, costs and equity of diagnostics and treatment to inform decision making of patients, providers and health care payers.

Your Tasks:
  • Participation in the Institute’s national and international research projects (main fields: Public Health, Epidemiology, Outcomes Research, Chronic Diseases, Personalized Cancer Medicine, Nutrition, Climate Change and Health, Health Technology Assessment for National HTA Authorities)
  • Performing scientific analyses (systematic reviews, epidemiologic and decision-analytic modelling, evidence-based medicine fact boxes and recommendations)
  • Collaborating in development and implementation of quality assurance, as well as data collection, management and preparation)
  • Conducting interim analyses and reporting as well as participating in publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Involvement in teaching and educational organization, for example, in the areas of Public Health and Health Data & Decision Science, the UMIT TIROL Academy Program, and in continuing education measures.
Your Profile:
  • Successful candidates will hold a Master degree preferably in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, applied mathematics, informatics or in an equivalent field
  • Additional qualification or professional experience in quantitative methods in public health/biomedicine preferred.
  • Ability to efficiently manage tasks in parallel, carefully and systematically, and to communicate research results to various audiences.
  • A proven ability to work effectively within a team to achieve timely and valued objectives.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary team-oriented research
  • Good written and oral English language skills
  • Experience in statistical analysis with SAS, STATA, R, or SPSS etc. and literature management software (e.g., EndNote)

The salary is based on the salary group scheme of UMIT TIROL and amounts € 2,700.00 (full-time basis). An overpayment is possible depending on qualifications and experience
